Help!

The last time I tried to make Scotch pancakes (Drop Scones) I could have soled my shoes with them! Tried again tonight- they weren't quite so tough .When I turned them over they looked fine but the other side didn't cook evenly-centre ok but not properly done round the edge. They were a bit misshapen too. Any help would be appreciated-I don't want to admit defeat.
