Father Xmas brings everything ?

My 8 & a half year old Gr/daughter Is going to be disappointed this xmas I think,
I asked her if she'd made a list out for Father Xmas yet and she said "I can only think of one thing I want" I thought well this is going to be easy this year, what is it? I said, "An iPad" she said, mmm! I don't think mummy will be able to afford that this year I said, OH! Its ok I'm asking Father Xmas he brings everything you ask for.

How do you explain to your kids why Father Xmas doesn't bring everything they want?

Thankyou for all your replies, all is duly noted. We must remember she has a 6 year old sister too & what one has the other wants. This year iPads, & laptops are out, the 8year old has computer lessons at school & a lap-top she doesn't want. I will be leaving all that to their Mum & Dad now and I'll get them clothes & old fashioned Colouring books & pencils. Sweets & chocolates not allowed, perhaps a sherbet dab.
