why do doctors roll the stomach area?
4 Answers
There is a procedure hospital doctors do as part of their routine examinations that involves 'rolling' the skin on the side of the body, as if they were kneading some dough to make bread. Does anyone know why they do this or what they are looking for?

Many reasons.... all outlined by douglas..... ...however, from the action that you describe it is most likely that they are looking for fluid in the abdomen (ascites).
This requires a particular style of " kneeding" as described by the OP and if present is indicative of many disorders.
