I need glasses just for reading and general close up stuff like sewing etc. The optician suggested contact lenses which I have tried for the last 2 days. Now, weirdly, close up and distance is less clear!!
She has suggested 2 other kinds (bi focal ones and then just having a lens in one eye).
Has anyone managed to find lenses that work with eyes that only struggle with close up?
I have been using varifocal lenses for the last couple of weeks, I am long sighted generally but as i've aged (44 years old now) I now need distance glasses too. The optician was dubious when I said I wanted to try them but was shocked when I took to them immediately. I have to go back this Thursday for a check up to see if I want to continue with them. I will be keeping them but will also be ordering a new pair of reading glasses for the times when my lenses are uncomfortable/annoying me.
We didn't go down the 'one long one short range lens' route. My lenses are true varifocal, which means my close up and distance prescriptions are combined in each lens... sort of like bifocal glasses where you see the half moon shaped thicker lens at the bottom section of some glasses.
I tried the mono vision. One lens only. Was really great for reading, being able to read labels in shops and supermarkets etc. But I struggled when driving. My brain didn't adjust quickly enough and I misjudged distances. I would say it is worth giving it ago. You may not have the problem I did.
