I have had to pay something with a postal order(don`t want to send a cheque)..gosh how they have changed...look like cheques now plus no counterfoil .But can someone tell where the number is on it ,please

It's on the receipt you got when you collected it from the Post Office.
I believe it is on the receipt you get when you purchase one, this should be retained in case of any loss or enquiry.

Right..good job I kept the receipt(bought it a couple of weeks back.)..there are several numbers:
Session ID: 1 digit,hyphen 8 digits
Ref:This has 20 digits,
Voucher ID:10 digits


Help...which is it?????

One other thing...I need to cross it...what do I write within the two lines...can`t remember..it is years since I sent a PO.
The name of the person/company you are paying, just as with a cheque
the recipients name
A/c payee only - I think

Why not? To all intents and purposes it's a cheque and can be paid into a bank account just like one.

OK if they don't take cheques........
.................and if they are not crossed (ie open) they can be cashed at any Post Office.
They just don't - pretty unsafe method of payment IMO

Wouldn't offer them as payment for anything myself unless it IS crossed either
