my kitten has been drinking whiskers cats milk for the last few weeks, but we recently found a cheaper alternative. He is being a fussy little blighter though and refusing to drink it! any tips on how to persuade him on this?

he won't touch water, and I've been told cows milk will upset his tummy, (although my mum gave him some and he seemed ok!) can't afford to give him whiskers everyday - help!

First of all, as he gets older you will need to persuade him to drink water, like humans, cats need water. He will drink it given time, its simply that if he's never had it he doesn't know what it is. Try wetting your fingers and letting him sniff and lick them. Also, if all you put down for him is water, when he's thirsty enough he'll drink it! My cat only drinks water and is absolutely fine on it - they don't need milk once they're older.

Same goes for the cheaper brand of milk - he'll turn his nose up at it to start with but if that's the only option he will drink it eventually and get used to it. Whiskers milk is certainly far too expensive to be giving him everyday!

Hey - your kitty is one clued up cookie. Given the option of Lindt chocolate or that awful cheap Eater egg stuff what would you go for??!! I think a good alternative to changing the brand is to just give him less of the Whiskers one. One of those whiskers bottles should last at least 4 days to a week - as you shouldn't give your kitten too much anyway. Good Luck.
this is exactley wot happened with my kitten u wont b able to get the little buger off the stuff we have tryed 4 a year with no avail at all so just try and give it to her as a treat of at nite just before bed thats wot we do now

annavc - the finger thing worked (eventually!) and he's now drinking cheap cats milk AND water - quick result!

We also tried to swap to a cheaper litter, which he didn't like either, but I can see why, its so dusty the poor little thing sneezes everytime he goes the toilet!
