Strictly Come Dancing songs.

I've Googled this, but come up blank, so it's down to you lot ;-)

Why on earth don't they play the original songs for the dancers to dance to? I've just heard the singers murder Debarge's Rhythm of the Night, admittedly the original wasn't that great to start with, but this was dire!

Its because they have to shorten them to fit the dance.

I dont usually pay that much attention to the programme never mind the songs. I have obviously noticed they're always performed by singers, and are usually just ok, sometimes bad- its just this one was that bad I noticed immediately.

I have always thought the singers were dire, they always seem to murder a good song.

I can understand why they use singers instead of the original but surely there are better singers out there (I hope so!!)

They are singing live at a tempo to fit the dance. Very often they don't know what songs they are singing until Saturday morning.

They dance for a minute and a half.

Most songs are longer than that, so to try to trim the original song to fit the dance will be almost impossible.

Also some songs are played at a faster or slower tempo to fit the dance.

I think the band and singers do an excellent job.
