on acceleration, its should make the wooshing noise and then when you take your foot off to change gear you may get a fffftttsh noise a bit like cracking a whip ?

yeah that sounds right.

thanks for your reply but this noise is heard within the car and is really more like a whiney whoosh if that can be i have had the car 3 months and it didnt do it when i first had it so i feel as if something isnt right.
Sounds a bit like noise from the turbo bearings, Have you been switching the engine off immediately after a fast run without giving the turbo time to cool down for a minute or so?
it's also like the noise made when air is escaping under pressure, loose pipe, leaking intercooler... is it any slower since the noise started?
i agree with qapmoc, it could be the bearings if u av been thraping it. but it cud also be a split pipe going to the turbo. if is a split pipe u will notice a loss of power.

i havent been thrashing it but ford said it was a normal noise but it wasnt their 3 months ago when i bought the car and theyve had it in the garage doing running gear work you can hear the noise also in 5th gear at 70mph and accelaerate a bit you can hear it v v ooing like a spinning top noise thankyou
turbos do whine....have you just finished running the car in, you'll tend to notice the sound the higher up the rev range you go as the turbo works on exhaust gasses.
Factory recirc BOV's do make a small noise when you let off. Like a rush of air (which is what it is basically)
