If Sweden just wanted to question him then why didn't they come to London rather than launch this whole extradition charade? Even now I'd say that Ecuador would probably let Swedish officials into the Embassy if they wanted to question him. This whole thing stinks to high heaven.

I think you are confusing due process with conspiracy. It is not simply that he needs to answer a few questions - He is wanted for arrest.

So him hiding in the embassy is him evading arrest, all the while claiming conspiracy.

I meant that I had no views on Assange's alleged crime. I am not anti US generally but in this instance they are throwing a paddy because a nasty man exposed some facts they'd rather not have exposed. The Swedes seem to be helping by extraditing him so they can hand him over presumably for some juicy bauble from a grateful buddy.

"The Swedes seem to be helping by extraditing him," you say. The Americans haven't even asked the Swedes if they'll do any such thing and you appear to assume they've already agreed!
Having said that, I do hope the Yanks have got a legally watertight request for his extradition ready to present to them if he DOES ever find his way to Stockholm!

I hope you don't imagine, Inf, that I'm going to read all these links...I do have a 'real' life as well, you know!
As for his 'alleged' offences, we all know for a 'certainty' that he is guilty of, at the very least, 'receiving' stolen American property (diplomatic cables etc)...ie he's a fence. There is also a belief among some Americans that he may have suborned Bradley Manning, so that MAY well be an additional crime he has to answer in the States, I don't know.
As regards British law, he's also a criminal, given that the breaking of bail condiditons is an offence. Every single level of our judiciary decided he should be extradited to Sweden having heard hs case against that. That country too, appears to believe that he has a legal case to answer and he is avoiding that by skulking where he is skulking. His theory of further "extraordinary rendition" is just that, a self-protective theory, nothing more.
In other words, at least three sovereign countries believe he needs to face questioning and possibly arrest and charging.
I agree with them, so - as you suggest - I'm "not too keen on him." I should add that I have no intention of getting involved here in a drawn-out debate on any of the above...been there, done that, end of!
