Setting up an email for an xbox account.
What is the best sort of email address to set up for an xbox account. The guy in Game told me to set up a hotmail.co.uk account, but are there better options?

However they are gradually replacing Hotmail with Outlook.com so I would use that

Or try a live.com account which were set up specifically for the XBox, simply follow the steps below
http://www.xbox.com/en-GB/Live/Join/home
http://www.xbox.com/en-GB/Live/Join/home
>>>Defo hotmail.
But if hotmail.com is being replaced by outlook.com why not sign in to Outlook.com now to save switching later.

All you need is a windows live passport, you can use any email you want for it, my live account doesn't use a microsoft email address.

"Use an email address you already have
You can use any existing email address from any email provider when you create your credentials for Windows Live ID. Then you can use those credentials to sign in to any Windows Live ID site.
To access email at www.hotmail.com, you must use an MSN or Hotmail email address, or an address associated with an MSN Personal Address."

Chuck, I'm in Ireland and the Game guy reckoned it's better to have a hotmail.co.uk rather than a hotmail.com account. So I was just wondering would there be better alternatives before I set it up.
Secondly it is for my son for Christmas so I think I will just get santa to set up a dedicated account for him to use.

The guy at game isn't exactly correct about needing a msn account for mail.
I have Xbox, and use a yahoo account.
Anyway the use of msn is to make things a little more social for you, especially if you plan to get windows eight or even windows phone at a later stage .
The main feature of msn in Xbox is so you can have msn messenger running in the background.
Personally as a gamer I found this irritating as messages would pop up on screen while you play (they may have changed this now, but I turned of my msn feed ages ago)
When you sign up it indeed suggests you need a msn account, of course, after all why would ms recommmend anything else? It however is NOT a requirement.
When you make your account if you are worried about the settings or not confident, first set up a 'dummy' account, as you get silver Xbox connection for free anyway. This should hopefully satisfy your curiosity.
If you get stuck however, nah your way to Xbox.com/support and look for Xbox ambassadors, ambassadors are people like myself who are on live chat, and can help.
Enjoy your time on Xbox.
