If you phone Hotpoint in Nox's link you have to bare with them....chilly!

I loved my twin tub and my first automatic was a top loader...much better.
We had a Flatley at school Tony. If we backcombed and laquered our hair too much the Home Ec teacher would run our heads under the tap and hang us over the Flatley.

I seem to remember washing being transferred by large wooden tongs.

I remember those, I hated them. My mother's first one only washed, you had to rinse by hand. But it did have a manual mangle attached, I loved turning the handle.
