Hello. Can anyone suggest a good substitute for potatoes that goes with a traditional christmas dinner? I have no oven and I dont like mashed potatoes. I have ordered a ready roasted chicken and i'm thinking about having broccolli and courgettes with it, any other good non-oven suggestions?? Many thanks in advance

What about sweet potato or butternut squash?
If you cant roast anything your options (minus mash spuds) arent too great!

How about boiled new potatoes with a bit of butter on a sprinkling of chives, or maybe (if you have a microwave and assuming you can microwave them!) Yorkshire puddings?
Why not saute potatoes instead? They look much like roasties... just pre-boil potatoes, then slice and fry them in olive oil or butter.

Some great answers there. Thanks everyone. I would have gone for the new potatoes but I can't get them here (Tokyo). All I can buy are old potatoes and one costs about 90p!! I'll definetly try sauteeing and I'll attempt a nice white sauce for carrots and leeks. Merry Christmas all!

Hi Laura, when I was without a conventional oven for a month I stumbled across this site www.cooks.com

If you type in microwave potatoes in the search space you'll find 260 ways to cook potatoes in the microwave.

Hope that helps, enjoy your xmas dinner
