Can My Husband Have Caught Norovirus?
10 Answers
We went to my work Christmas party tonight and as a joke, my husband danced cheek to cheek with one of my colleagues. She had norovirus earlier this week but has been clear of symptoms since Wednesday morning. It's now Saturday evening. Could he have picked up this nasty bug? My mother lives with us and is very elderly and frail. I am worried if she gets this very contagious bug it might kill her.

From the NHS website: "Avoid visiting hospitals if you have had the typical symptoms of norovirus in the past 48 hours. Some hospitals may request you avoid visiting if you have experienced symptoms within the past 72 hours. Norovirus is more serious and even more easily spread among people who are already ill" Source:...

So it seems that the chances of the the norovirus being transmitted are usually very low after 48 hours (which, in your case, would mean after Friday morning). I doubt that there's much to worry about.

This virus went through the place where my daughter works like a dose of salts a couple of years ago, it's very nasty and we had to take her to hospital as she is a diabetic and was dehydrated and had to be put on a drip. Just as a precaution it would be wise for your husband to stay clear of your mother and for everyone to practice good hygiene, frequent hand washing and all that sort of thing. You could talk to NHS 24 for advice on what to do to keep the virus at bay

Adrianben, yes it was a serious question. When you work in a small workplace, you all become friends with husband or wives. It doesn't meant they were doing anything naughty! Just having a dance and goofing around. What was I supposed to do, rush onto the dance floor and say "Unhand my husband you virus carrier?" I don't know where you work, but I would never have been left to forget that one. And why would I ask a question like this if I didn't want a real answer?
Anyway, thank you to everyone for your answers. We will make sure everyone keeps up strict hygiene and hopefully we will be ok. Thanks for your advice. Fingers crossed.
