I thin jno is right, I think that Victoria had gg grandchildren, including George VI who was born in 1895.

I seem to think though, that if the Duchess of Cambridge gives birth during the Queen's lifetime the child will not have the title HRH, but I am happy to be corrected.

I can remember a similar thing with earlier offspring, was it Princess Anne who could not call her kids HRH

No, Princess Anne, asked for her children not to be given the title of HRH on the basis that they could then try and lead a normal life.

The Cambridge baby is one generation down from Peter and Zara (Anne's kids) and I am sure i read somewhere that the title HRH will only go down 2 generations when the monarch still lives. I could be talking about my nether regions though.

"George V decreed in 1917 that the titles "Royal Highness" (HRH) prince and princess should be restricted to the children of the sovereign; the children of the sovereign's sons; and the eldest son of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales." and "Under this formula, a son for William and Kate would become a prince; but there's no provision for a daughter's title."

But presumably the proposed new legislation will address this.

It is quite possible that Eleanor of Aquitaine became a great-grandmother while her husband Henry was on the English throne, but it is also probable that her first great-grandchildren were descended from her first husband, the King of France, from whom she was divorced because she produced only daughters by him.
As far as I know, Eleanor was the only Queen in History who was the wife of two kings and the mother of two Kings. Unfortunately, in those days, records were a bit vague for the more distant descendants of royalty, so the full number of her descendants may never be sorted out, especially bearing in mind high childhood mortality.

Letters patent would be issued in the event of them having a daughter to create her HRH. This was done in 1948 so that Princess Elizabeth's children would be royal, which otherwise they would not have been as grandchildren of the King through the female line.

The question is, how many became great grandparents? Right? Not how many had great grandchildren that were given a royal title?
