A neighbour slipped on ice a couple of winters ago, fell, and broke her wrist. Now that we seem to be facing the prospect of icy weather, any hints on how to get out and about without risking a visit to a fracture clinic?

i have two of the ugliest pairs of boots in Christendom, however i reckon when push comes to shove they will do the business, not expensive either, it's why i bought two pairs. If they ever wear out it would be a miracle.

I have had a pair of these for the last three winters and they are fantastic. I had two serious falls on the ice prior to using these, so was a very nervous pedestrian walking to work. These have changed my life and would reccomend them to anyone. BB
was looking at those in shop earlier, your recommendation is a good one so will go back and get some. They were the pro ones, is that what you have. 20 quid for the pair
I think mine are the pro ones. They did have a strap that went over the foot to help hold them in place but I found I didn't need that and it just took longer to slip them over my shoes or boots. I cut off the over strap and they stay in place just fine, so you should be ok with the standard ones as shown in the link at £12.99 BB
whoops! - recommend
will get the other ones then, the pro ones i saw were the ones with the strap over the toe. thanks very much, i don't like buying things that don't work, if you know what i mean
I know exactly what you mean.
thanks again for the tip, i did ask the assistant, so will pop back or look in our local student travel place they might have them there.
I'd be interested in how you get on. I always worry when making recommedations in case other people think, 'she's talking a load of rubbish.' But I have truly been impressed with these. BB
I'm glad I saw this thread. I've just put the Yaktrax on my Amazon wish list. Just what I need!
Buy a Michelin man suit.
Sorry Dan but I would prefer not to get flattened by a lorry.
I'd recommend hibernation.
If only! Barmaid.
