if someone makes a cheque out to me but spells my surname slightly wrongly, will the bank accept it? I have sold and object over ebay but don't know whether or not to ask the buyer to send another cheque with my proper name on it!
The bank would be within their rights to refuse the cheque as technically, it is not made out to you, but if it's a small mistake ask at the counter and explain. The bank will probably accept it.
Shouldn't be too much of a problem. My ex used to get cheques made out to La Rue all the time, and his surname was Le Roux. Many of them were over 500, and we never once had any of them queried
It depends on your bank. I went to deposit a cheque that was made out to mrs instead of miss and my bank got all snotty about it, they cashed it in the end but what a fuss over nothing.
