that's a tough decision, bednobs and i sympathise. my trust did the same thing about 8 months ago and i took the decision to go down a grade to band 5 to have less responsibility as i just don't feel my employers actually deserve my skills, effort or time. i found a solution in taking a part time band 6 teaching post instead (so i am 50:50 band 5 and six) and i am now concentrating on building my academic career instead which is much more rewarding. i would encourage you to spend more time with your family, less time and effort at work (so don't necessarily strive to go up a band or anything) and see what other jobs are out there for you. there comes a time where you can only do so much when you are not really appreciated (a common feeling among nhs employees now) and have to start thinking more about your own priorities instead. i got fed up of always staying on because someone couldn't be arsed to come to work, or doing the awkward shift patters, or staying up to 2 late to finish work that others hadn't completed etc. etc. in the end, despite near begging by my hospital manager, i told him i didn't want to do that anymore and wouldn't be 'putting out' for all the special little projects either. i now have a life that is more balanced and peaceful.....i hope you sort things out x
