My Mother in Law has a 60,000 btu output b/f gas boiler about 15 years old which runs six single radiators (originals that came with the system) and two large modern doubles. Total area being 88sq.feet...The two large rads, roughly in the middle of the system don't get all that warm, the bottoms usually cold.. When I turned off all the other rads, these two get very hot all over, so it isn't sludge. Could it be the boiler is too small for the load? The pump is set on No.3. Thanks, John

The system may need flushing and balancing. When was it last serviced?
Question Author
Serviced a couple of weeks ago.Drained down couple of times last year, and was clear.
60000BTU is just over 17kW output in new money, so that doesn't sound too bad for the load you are using.
Sounds like a balancing issue to me. Servicing technicians won't look at the system balancing (unless you ask them) in my experience. Anyway it is something you can probably do yourself - just takes a bit of time
