As a mother of young daughters, I'm very much in the nurture rather than nature camp and couldn't empathise with Eva and wanted to hear Franklin's voice because I didn't trust her narrative.
I also think the characterizations were a bit weak, particularly the daughter, who seemed to be a victim and nothing else.
I'd recommend it, but like Jude the Obscure by Thomas Hardy, I would warn people not to expect to bond favourably with characters you would rather slap.
