Seems a bit disproportionate to me if only hacking emails. An email from these people presumably has been over the internet, which in my book is in the public domain(I doubt it was encrypted). I have always adopted the approach dont put in an email what you dont want anyone to see.

If one were the victim then it may not seem enough as one may want vengence; but comparing to other crimes that result in a ten year custodial sentence, it seems difficult to justify. If giving public access to private photos is 10 years then are we about to see an explosion in sentence terms and the prison population ?
