A couple weeks ago, as you may have heard, Richard Branson announced the Virgin Galactic Commercial (!!) spacecraft, sending people to space for about 200,000 dollars(I'm not sure how many euros that is). What do you think about it, is it going to be successful?

that's about 168,605 or 115,247 with today's rates (thanks, Google).

I think it has a potential to be very successful, indeed I think space tourism will be very successful indeed at some point in time. However, i'm not sure it's with the Virgin implementation of the idea.

I have no real idea how much money is involved to get a flight into space, and even though I know Virgin would not be building its own Shuttles etc. (I assume), I'm sure the figure you quote would be assuming several tourists at once.

People are getting richer and richer, and I'm sure many of these rich people want to experience things that others have, or can, not. Only time will tell whether or not Richard Branson will be successful.
The one thing i've always wanted to do, is to is to go into space, not likely to happen, but i'm sure there are plenty of others who would like to also, so I hope it is successful.
Are you sure it's not a spin-off from "Space Cadets"? As an experiment in Mass Hypnosis and sheer gullibility, that programme was absolutely superb!!

Now it would be much more appealing if someone came up with an entire orbiting hotel in space!! (It would be so much fun to design it!!)Imagine...2 days in space...that would give you so much more than Branson's suborbital trip for about 3 hours. But yeah...obviously easier said than done...

The major problem I have with it is the grotesque energy waste / pollution it would cause just to satisfy the whim of a handful of people.

Richard Branson should set a better example.
