Iphone Read Reports Not Showing Up

My friend has her's switched on and can see when I have read messages. According to Apple support this must mean mine is on and working. Yet I can't see when she or anyone else has read messages.
Why?
I received delivered reports okay.
She could also receive these when I text from my old Blackberry.
I have the iPhone 5.

May be they made there I Message off so you are not able to see that the message is read or not. So tell Him To put it on then try.
