We are planning to visit New york for a few days, while staying in Canada with relatives this summer, how do I apply fo a visitors visa, and what are the must see sights, remember we only have two or three days! Any ideas on reasonable accommodation too? Thanks in advance.

New York is a huge city, but most of the tourist items on on the island of Manhatten.

Here is Broadway, Times Square, Wall Street, the UN building, Empire State Building, ground zero (twin towers site), Greenwich Village, Carneige Hall, Macy's Bloomingdales, Central Park etc etc etc.

Just south of Manhatten is the Statue of Liberty, You can get a boat over there and go up inside the statue.

You can take a boat trip right round Manhatten, and see it all from off shore which is an amazing experience.

Lots of NY web sites like this:

emmalee, here is a link to a previous answer about NYC, which also links to other answers, posted by myself and others.

Here's a fairly good site for visa requirement information...

To get the real flavor of NYC(pun only slightly intended), take an early morning and check out this:

Welcome to the U.S.!

Assuming you are a UK citizen, you can get a visa waiver at the border when crossing in to the US by land ($6 or 7 fee) or at the Canadian airport if flying (included in the fare).

If you only have 2 or 3 days then do prioritise what you want to see. I went recently with a friend for 5 days, so longer than you, but still not enough time to see everything! We took the Staten Island ferry to see the Statue of Liberty (takes about 1 hour return) then walked along Wall Street to Trinity Church then paid our respects at Ground Zero. We got an early start in (I think we were at the ferry terminal between 9am and half past) and took the morning to do this which gave us enough time to stroll round Greenwich Village, Little Italy and China Town. We also went round Central Park and The Metropolitan Museum of Art, went up the Empire State Building one evening and up The Top of The Rock (the newly reopened top of the Rockefeller Centre) one morning. Then there is shopping on 5th Ave (we also went to Grand Central Station - absolutely beautiful), and Macys. A lot of things can be booked on the internet (we booked Top of The Rock) so take advantage if you know where you're going to be when! We stayed at the Milford Plaza, just one block from Times Square, though there were mixed reactions about this hotel on one internet site I saw we found it absolutely fine, our room was nice and clean and cleaned everyday, the location was fantastic and the security is great as you have to show your room card to get to the lifts. As I said, make sure you have some sort of plan (it needn't be written in stone!) to make the most of your time in NYC and I'm sure you'll have a GREAT time!
