I'm no expert but I would have thought that the only thing you needed to know was their number.

You dial 001 then the number but remember to drop the leading 0 if there is one.

Most countries don't assign mobile phone numbers geographically but the USA is among the few exceptions. So dialling a US mobile number will involve using an area code but (since US callers have to include that code anyway) the code is almost certainly already included in any number which you've been given.

So you simply dial 00 (to access the international exchange system), then 1 (to access the USA's system) and the number which you've been given. The first part of that number will be the area code (e.g. 212 for New York or 470 for Georgia) but you don't need to know that.
