Cancellation Of Car Insurance By Insurer
Hello i took out a new car insurance policy with Asda on the 22nd November and have had it cancelled by them just 4 weeks later due to me not sending my driving license to them. I would like to point out that i have written proof from Asda telling me that if I found it difficult to locate my license that they could validate it on my behalf and i instructed them to do so several times. I went on holiday and they cancelled it whilst i was out of the country I have therefore lost a £170 deposit and a £63 payment. Do I have any rights in this situation as they did tell me they would validate the license for me?

The last email they sent me was one telling me that it was cancelled 5 days ago and they offered me a new policy, i have emailed them back asking them if they would provide a new policy without charging me a massive deposit again but I have had no reply as of yet. Thanks for that number it may come in useful :)
If you have lost your licence you should have applied for a new one. It is a requirement of the law that your driving licence is available for inspection by the police or any person who has a legal right to see it , a court for instance.
You should have asked for extra time to get a new licence. As it is a legal requirement that your licence must be available for inspection they should not say they can 'validate' it without seeing it. Are you sure you have not got confused about what was said? It is pretty normal now for an insurance company to need to see the licence , but I have never heard that they can 'validate it' without seeing it. If that was the case why ask for it in the first place ?

Have they said exactly why they cancelled the policy ? It may be because the tried to validate the licence but found it was wrong , only a provisional for example or suspended or even non existent or issued in an incorrect name or address. The address on the licence MUST match the address you give as your home and the place where the car is normally kept, if you have moved and the licence still shows the old address it would not be possible to 'validate' it and the insurance will be cancelled or void.
