Enjoying this but only just getting going. I have INTERCOM for the answer to 1A (by working backwards fro 1D) This is addressed to those who have attempted/completed this -- I will enter this word but still can not see how it fits in "Many birds will be flying south with wing (8)" to make the undeviled version. That is a sensible sentence in which "intercom" is a hidden word. Not essential at this time as most of my blood is busy digesting too much food/drink and is not in my brain but it is bugging me. Anyone out there understand? If so please can you give me a pointer.

If you look at the corresponding down clue, the jumble of intercom is hidden in there, take that out and 1 down becomes solvable.

In a normal PD clue, it's literally just a sentence, not a clue. There is a PD plus type where a definition is hidden in the sentence, but not in this case.
