All I am saying is don't be fooled by a long list of people who say "you've got to be daft not to do this as, in the long run, you'll gain".
Motor insurance (3rd party) for the private individual is compulsory - not the same for pets. Government Institutions can self-insure motor insurance, if they wish and the MOD (for one) used to do so. They pay the claims as they occur.
Its now over 20 years since my dentist went private, or one had to leave the practice. I chose to stay, and was offered (from memory) insurance cover at £20pm, which I rejected. It included 'free' (sic) 6-month check-ups, hygienist and cover for fillings. Even nowadays I pay less than £100 per year for this on PAYG, and I've had about 3 refillings in about 20 years.
Insurance is fine if you go into it with your eyes-open and avoid the scare stories.
