Agree wholeheartedly with both your comments. I'm fed up of reading elsewhere on the net about 'all he does is ride a bike' and 'where are the awards for soldiers, nurses, carers etc'.
Many ordinary people have been honoured, it's just that most don't take the time to read the honours list in full.

I'm always peeved at those who rubbish the efforts of true sportsmen, those who are a little gifted but apply themsleves and strive to become the best that they can possibly be. Furthermore, I get fed up of hearing 'Oh, sportsmen have it easy'. Some do(mainly footballers) but look at our Olympic rowers, driven to the point of exhaustion, having to be lifted from a boat as they are physically spent from their gargantuan physical efforts.
For those who say 'all he does is ride a bike' then I expect those people to be on the podium in yellow next year at the end of the Champs Elysees, the newly crowned champions of the most physically demanding 3 week sporting event in the world.
Rant over!
