Thanks again both of you. I can see 'mist condensing' but I'll give it more thought. TORNADO is perfect Gen2 but it was a weak answer to an earlier clue so I'll have to re-think that now!!. Grasscarp, I also studied a bit of weather when training as a coastguard but not as diligently as you.

My interest in the weather stems from working as a meteorological observer for 3 years in the early 70s. Still keep an interest. Latest notable events were nacreous cloud over most of eastern Scotland on the 9th Dec and then fall-streak holes two days later.

The only think I can come up with for 2nd one is spitting (as rain spits). There used to be tv programme Spitting Image (for the likeness bit) and spitting is deplored in public. Maybe someone will come up with something better.

gen2 I have done my time with a whirling frame psychrometer and a hand held anemometer when I was in the Royal Observer Corps.
