1 Cm Puddle Of Water In The Back Footwells ...
the drivers side is worse than the other side.
i cant see where its coming from though... the walls and doors are dry.
what is the most likely place its coming from?
i have noticed there is a lot of moss growing on the window edge of both the back windows and noticed a small amount of mould growing in the corner of the windows, on the inside.
could this be the cause somehow?
is it redirecting the normal rain flow drainage so it drips out into the car?
any ideas how i can locate the source? i assume a garage wont be able to do find it unless its raining...?
thanks

There's a drain next to the battery which can block up and fill with water, or the pollen filter housing is not seated properly on its base. If it's the pollen filter housing it will have to come out, clean the area where it sits and refit using a good quality mastic to seal the housing to its mounting point.
Take the car to a garage Joko is going to cost! It the case of elimination here,
check the drain holes are clear under the bonnet at the bulkhead ( Below the windscreen) have you left any windows open? are the carpets wet? if there are Mats in the car, remove & dry out. has the car had any windows replaced? under the car there are Rubber / Metal plugs that are inserted into the body of the car ( Forward to the Seats, Check these) open the doors in turn & pull the out / in / out /in, can you hear any signs of water within? if so, look under the car's door ( the base of the door) there are drain holes there, check they are clear. has this just started?

Thanks all
the car is a vw passat.
i noticed some dampness on the rear passenger footwell about 2 months or so ago - but never seen this puddle on the rear driver side before.... its a proper puddle not just wetness.
it could have been there a little while though as there was a n empty shopping bag in the footwell hiding it from view - and as the door doesnt open i didnt notice it - in fact i only noticed it when i looked through the window!
the lock on the rear door, drivers side is broken - the door does not open.
A mechanic looked at it and said it needs replacing - and in doing this check he did temporarily remove the window andthe inner metal pieces.
(i havent found the part to replace it yet... but its been like that for a little while now)
there is a piece of stringy door seal hanging down - but its been like that for over a year and its not rubber - more like thing sponge - a bit like the sticky back stuff you get on a roll that goes round doors and windows
i have noticed recently a strange noise coming from the passenger side dashboard whenever i turn right - sort of a fuzzy hiss - like something is moving across with the momentum.
there is also a crack in bottom of the windscreen - i am planning to get it replaced very soon - could that simply be letting the water in? - there are no chunks of glass missing and its not jagged - it looks like a fairly 'neat' crack - if you get me.
it sounds like it could be any or all of the things you have all mentioned!
thanks

It's a common fault on the Passat and Superb. Always in the rear off-side footwell. That's also what's causes the dead-lock on the door to stick on. Wires to the door lock shorted by the water.
I've just had this on my Superb. The mechanic had to remove the door cover and break the locking mechanism with a hammer and chisel to get the door open. The mechanism was replaced but not plugged in to the central locking. I can now lock the door with the button in the door and to open it, one pull of the indoor lever unlocks it and a second pull opens it. Cost £300 including parts but at least it won't fail its MOT on a door not opening.
