I Just Watched The News On Bbc - How Is A Film (Django Unchained) News?

I don't see whay a film shouldn't be news, but Lee/Tarantino clashes are nothing new. I expect aog to post on this any day now, once the Mail has picked up the story.

Most news programs are more like a magazine,and do not cover just politics and world/national issues. They also cover the arts-cinema,books,authors. This is time allowing-so maybe the item was a 'filler'...what exactly was said?

I just saw that, and frankly, it just seems like a free advert for the film.

As such, there's no newsworthy value to the piece. Unless the 'news' is that a film is coming out.

And that's not really news.

It seems the controversy is in how a film made by a white man depicts slavery...with Spike Lee comparing it to a spaghetti western.

A film which contains a depiction of slavery and the liberal use of the "N" word, and yet still doesn't cause offence amongst black folk, has just got to be news.

Therefore the question stands - what was the news value of the piece?

I should have said I didn't see the TV story either.

I see the film is on the cover of Sight & Sound this month. I think every Tarantino film is taken seriously, though I'm not sure that makes it into a news story, except over a quiet new year.
