HG Products, and Fuller also do a proprietary cleaner. Also see: http://www.thebbq.co.uk/Item/pump%5Faction%5Fspray%5Fcleaner/
Warm the grill before cleaning it to loosen the residue. Also get a good, shaped scraper device to lift the baked on dirt, or use a stiffened steel wire brush - a local commercial catering supplies company will get one of those for you, and be better than the domestic ones.
hi peanut the easiest way byfar is a bowl of hot water and leave to soak for a few hours then replace the hot water and give them a realy good scrub either with a brillo pad or a wire brush and another little tip next time you have a bbq keep a wire brush next to it and when you have finished give it a good rub 95% will just drop off (scout leader 20 years and i used to cook with them all the time on open fires)
