It could be very cold indeed. I was there last November and needed scarf, hat, gloves and a warm coat. You need to think about your feet too as Prague has cobbled streets and your ankles will hurt if you try to walk in anything other than flat shoes. Lightweight walking boots would be even better if you have them. Have a look at the weather on teletext to see what the 5 day forecast is, it's usually very acurate. Take care of your purse too, inside your coat is always safer. Have a great time.

I once went to Prague during the week before Easter (we got back on Good Friday) and I have never been so cold in my life. I recommend thermal underwear, or at the very least everything as per thugulike's message. It was wonderful though.

from what i have read on teletex it is cold and snowing their and the airport has been closed or closed for a few hours normally and flights r being dly'd and some r evan being canx,, so i would take warm clothing their,,,

u will love prague it is a very beautifull city,,

thugulike is correct on the footwear, i sell sturdy fur lines boots to lots of ladies that are visiting the january Prague markets and they usually have been before, trust me, they ask for the ones with the deepest soles and thickest thermal or fur lining, as they say the town is best if walked around but it is often way below freezing all day long.

I went there last month and it was pretty cold. I live in Munich and although it was minus 17C three or four days ago, the next few days are mild in comparison (stretching over this part of Europe). Having looked at Yahoo Weather for Prague it appears the same is there too (not too far from here) so it should be around minus 1C but with snow. I think it will be pretty mild for this time of year (compared to what it could be like!) but still pretty cold if you're not used to it.

So, wear a long coat if possible (keeps the chill off your bum and legs!), walking boots (cobbled streets/paths can be very slippy), scarf, gloves and hat if possible.

Check YahooWeather which I have found to be extremely accurate! Enjoy!

Thank you very much thugulike for your travel tips...particularly the one on keeping money inside my coat. I've looked at the weather forecast, the amount of snow sounds worrying! Off to Lincoln in the morning to buy a warm hat! Have a great 2006!

Thank you very much for your message Hgrove. I don't think I shall be able to get thermal underwear in time, so have decided to go for the layered look. I shall look like Michelin Lady! Cheers!

I do hope that by Tuesday the weather has improved to allow us to land. I'm trying very hard to get excited about the trip, but hearing all about how cold it is is making me feel increasingly concerned. Yes..I am a woose! Thank you for your message though. I'll go prepared..if I can find what I need tomorrow. Nothing like leavig it to the last minute!

Thank you dotjhawkes. You don't happen to live near Lincoln do you? I could have done with your shop to buy the correct footwear. I was interested to read about the January markets. Are they like craft Christmas markets or ordinary fruit& veg markets? Thank you for getting back to me.

Many thanks KebabMeister. By the time I'd got to the -17 bit, I was really getting cold feet about going...or should that read Frozen Feet! Your tip about Google Weather was very welcome, and fortunately, it doen't look so cold, but snow does seem to be mentioned alot! I have now changed from taking my fleece, and have put out my long Little Red Riding Hood coat. At least my bot will be warm! Thank you again.

Sorry dafz. My third answer was intended for you...and apologies for the figure trouble. I can spell the word leaving as opposed to leavig!

Your welcome.

Well, last night all our snow went... and then today it's been snowing all day and it's really deep again! I've just been out for a 2 mile backroad walk and it was only -1C but my face was really cold but other parts were a bit too warm after wrapping up a bit too much!! Typical! ;)

I read your first line and thought I would be in luck...then I read on! I've now been in touch with the hotel and chickened out getting the bus and metro, and have ordered a taxi from the airport. I do hope everyone is right and Prague really is lovely!
