In answer to your question, I think they probably will have a case.

Thank u maidup that's all I was asking
You were told you would get a court summons - so yes they do appear to have a case.
/// It's a lercher type dog and he was on a slip rope ///

Not looking to good, is it? LoL

Lurcher type
Have you been questioned before Moggy?

Mmm (again)

"prerequisites for the hunter/poacher "
Did you have anything else with you like a knife or gamebag?
-- answer removed --
did you have night vision binoculars and an air rifle and a black ski mask?
I would say that if you were walking your dog on a lead on the public road you stand a reasonable chance of 'No further action'.
If any of the following aggravating factors apply I would say that you stand a reasonable chance of receiving a summons:
-Having been seen to run your dog on the farmland or shine your adapted torch over it.
-Carrying any further 'equipment' (knife, bag, red lens etc.)
-Having previously come to notice for a similar incident
-Any dead hares/rabbits having been found nearby.
They said you would get a summons. Has it arrived yet?
-- answer removed --
wait and see.

that is all you can do.

I have a lurcher and if someone said oh you must be poaching, I would strongly contest it. Anyway it is more likely to be hunting wild mamma;s wouldnt it ?

I am amazed police are showing any interest in this at all
but then I do live in Manchester
i am also confused. @.@
