US government is telling people to disable their Java as there' a security flaw in it which makes it vulnerable to being hacked. Anyone else heard of this?

Last year I seemed to be doing Security updates every month to plug one vunerability after another in Java. During the Christmas break I installed OSX Mountain Lion which does not include Java plugins. So far I haven't needed it so good timing.
