not having a go, totally squeamish about body piercing and dont like the look, but it wont stop me answering a question, my mate has removed a lip percing (ring) two months ago and the scar is nearly invisible, only people who knew that a piercing has been removed notice the scar and we all agree that at worst it looks like a nearly gone spot, no-one has asked him about it or stared at it, go for the piercing and dont worry :-)
Not an answer, just a comment. Good on you, Avocado. I got my lip pierced about five years ago, and I absolutely love it. Only thing is, I tend to chew it when I'm nervous, or if I drink too much coffee. No chipped teeth yet though, so all is well. I have a SSR (Smooth segment ring. Basically a big 'sleeper'), but most people tend to go for a Labret (like a Stud earring with a flat back), so what are you going for? (I know that you probably knew what the two things were, but the explanation was for anyone else reading the post). As for it leaving a scar on the outside, couldn't tell you. I did have it out for a couple of years, but I have a beard. I know that it DID leave a teeny scar on the inside, 'cause I could feel a tiny little nub.
I got mine done at MetalMorphosis in Soho, and it cost 35 for the piercing. I can't remember if I had to pay extra for the ring, as they generally do it with a Labret. But if you DO have to pay extra, the SSR will be about 15. healing time should be no more than 6 weeks, and make sure you keep it clean with saline solution, and buy some Betadine antiseptic body paint in Boots in case of infection. Unfortunately, because it's near your mouth, food and drink can get into it easily, and if you're a smoker (like me) then it can go bad all too easily. The good news is that Betadine should clear up any problems in a matter of a few days. mine got very badly infected after a day at a rave on Hackney Marshes, where I was trying to keep it cool with baby wipes, not realising they had alcohol in them, and it was a scorcher of a day. Ended up looking like a raccoon (due to my sunglasses) with a dribbling sore on my chin :(. Hope this doesn't put you off, as now it's all fine, and looks fan-bl**dy-tastic.If you're in London, I suggest going to MM. they're the only place I trust, and I've had a few piercings in my time. Out of curiosity, guy or girl?

good on you! Let me know if it hurts cause always wanted to get my lip pierced but been too chicken! Strange cause have tattoos and didn't mind the pain then, think it's the needle that puts me off cause saw someone getting their belly button done and it was big. Doesn't make sense I know. I hate the way people treat you cause you've got stuff pierced or branded. My mum freaked just cause I got a ring in my nose. It doesn't make me a different person, I'm still me, I just happen to like that sort of thing.
