Did you notice that on 'Bargain Hunt' today, there was a Union flag behind the auctioneer. It was shown upside down.
Some people might say it does not matter which way the Union flag is shown, but to my mind it does matter. Looking on Google there are a few examples as to why it is wrong.
a) it is taken as an insult to the Crown.
b) theoretically it is illegal
c) it should only be flown upside down as a sign of distress.
What made matters worse was that this flag on 'Bargain Hunt' was a commercially made flag, so obviously the manufacturer doesn't know it is wrong, and there are probably thousands on the market.
I don't believe that statement on seiyaku about it being a "secret" danger signal either.....would like to see any kind of confirmation from any other source
It is a bug bear of mine seeing our flag being shown upside down.
A lot of the flags being waved by children at Royal events are upside down and one I saw once had 'made in China' on it.
I have to admit it must be one of the most difficult flags in the world to get right and if half the population of the UK cannot understand it how can we expect the rest of the world to do so?
Perhaps we ought to have 'this way up' printed on each flag!
