Ev 1053 - Making A Point
15 Answers
If I ever knew the thematic word needed for this EV
I'd long since forgotten it!
I therefore found the puzzle very trying and unsatisfactory.
I hope fellow EVers didn't feel the same.

I can't quite get 28a and the wordplays for 21a and 17d. It's good to have a real challenge for a change but like K I'm finding it a little unsatisfactory. No doubt I'll feel different when the light dawns.
I'm guessing Brat to be the son or daughter of Ifor???

Hello K & T, here was me dreading a Mr O puzzle, I think Mr I has been taking lessons from Mr O in how to confuse my 'little grey cells'! I am totally lost on this one at the moment and have only managed a handful of clues with a further two or three that fall into the catagory of "that has to be the answer, but how on earth have I got there?" Some VERY heavy hints needed here to break through the smog.
Hi DD
Some of the regulars (Dr b , Christiana etc) have gone missing this week.
The 'heaviest' hint I can safely give is that the puzzle is all about vowels, or more specifically the developing of vowels between consonants.
The two groups of 8 cells to be highlighted are extreme East & extreme West
of the grid.
Good luck

I don't know about sparky chat, but I found this EV to just be irritating. I stopped even keeping track of the extra/missing letters because they had nothing to do with the gridfill; and who has ever heard of the thematic word? Not my favorite puzzle.
My teaching semester is back in full swing and I am teaching at 2 different U's this semester so I am keeping busy. And it's a lovely & sunny 40 degrees (F) today!

Devadolly, I believe you have, like me recently acquired Bradford's! Have look at it under the key word "vowel" that K has indicated! In my edition, the 9th edition it's the penultimate word. The word appears in the grid in what is a normal position for words to appear.
Sparky chat, wow, what a compliment, I'll need to pour and then slurp another glass of Merlot to recover from that comment! So far we have managed to avoid the worst of the snow, a light dusting monday morning which had disappeared in 2 hours. Yesterday and today have been very cold, but really sunny! The forecast is for snow at the weekend, may they be wrong!

Ah Good! That seems to have turfed you out! Hello Dr's both,, I presume that is F and not C drb? We are hovering about the 34 - 36 mark here, Ginger Mog is welded to the radiator on one of his many cushions and I have to admit I would love to join him! No snow, mind you, if we have snow here somewhere else people are fighting thro' 12ft snow-drifts. Thank you for the hint Doc, will grab the Bradford's at a later time.
Coming in late this week.... himself has just started the puzzle as we have had long days with our little people. Today, though, hurray hurray, we have a snow day! Parents are stuck in their house with the lp's and we are safely distant (not that we don't love the blighters dreadfully!). The h-g has filled the grid and just started the next stage - not so happy to hear that it is a word he might not know (one of many he hastens to add)!
