I recently bought some bread rolls covered with poppy seeds so I sincerely hope you're not correct ;-) Are you thinking of the Opium Poppy, which is a totally different specie - though I believe it's only the juice that is used in analgesics and narcotics.
not really an answer to your question but my boyfriend was told not to eat poppy seeds as they can be mistaken for cannabis on drug tests (which he has to have at work)
