Braille on Google?

What's with the Braille heading in place of Google?

It looks like it's there to celebrate a particular blind person's life, but I'm not sure.

Come on folks, doesn't everyone know that it was Louis Braille's birthday today ? He was born in 1809 and it's a very sad but uplifting story - check out

And here's another useless (or maybe useful) bit of info. On the "F" and "J" keys of your keyboard (yep, you should all have a keyboard), you'll see/feel a little raised hyphen...... guess what they are for !!

Thanks Wingnut - that's what I did as soon as I noticed it & it showed 'Happy Birthday Louie Braille'. I also double clicked on it & it gave pages & pages on the same topic.

I was wondering if it could be for any other reason too, but it must be soley for that person. You live & learn.

No October, not everyone would know it was Louie Braille's birthday today - but we do now. We must pay more attention!

Sorry Smudge, didn't mean to offend, nor sound patronising, but Louis Braille has always been "big on my radar" as they say. My mum went blind at an early age and all my family knew about him and braille. I can read braille so as soon as I saw the Google display earlier on today, I knew it was about him.

Ah, well there you go. I'm sad for you that your Mum went blind at an early age & admire you for learning Braille - not an easy task I wouldn't have thought.

I would like to learn sign language - so perhaps I will actually get round to doing so one day. Kind regards.

Sign language is for the deaf but good on you for wanting to learn it. Little warning tho - there are lots of different sign languages (British Sign Language which uses two hands, American Sign Language which only uses one hand plus fingerspelling for those really difficult words) etc etc. Do a google search and you'll see what I mean !!

Hey, if you think about it, Braille and Sign Language(s) are not really any different from learning another foreign language like German or French or Spanish. They are all methods of communication, so that's got to be good :-)

I do realise sign language is for the 'deaf' October!

I was thinking more of learning Makaton sign language(I think that's how you spell it). Lots of schools use it for special needs children.

Hi neti - the English Google heading has gone back to normal now as it's no longer Loui Braille's birthday!
