Setting Up A New Lcd Hd Tv Help Help!!

Just purchased a new 40" LCD full HD TV with built in freeview today, when setting it up the aerial cable on back of tv is a normal push in socket type, but my aerial cable has a threaded end which was connected to my old freesat box, i believe this end is called an (f type coupling), i tried setting it all up with freesat box aswell to see if tv gets signal via scart lead but when searching it says no channels found, does anyone know if i can get an adaptor to fit on to threaded end so i can connect it to back of tv?

Couple of things wrong here:

1) You're trying to plug the Freesat cable into the wrong place.
2) You're confusing the Scart input as a "channel".

To get you up and running quickly, try this. Leave the scart plugged in. Look for this button on your remote control:

Or it might be labelled "Source". Make sure your Freesat box is on. Find that button on your remote. Then keep pressing it until you see the picture from your Freesat box.

Post the model number of your TV here and we'll see if we can get things working properly after that ...

I'm less worried about what's on 'your' end of the cable than I am about what's on the other end!

A satellite dish (unsurprisingly) points at a satellite. That satellite provides signals which are on completely different frequencies to those used by terrestrial TV and no use whatsoever with a Freeview TV. (i.e. you can't get a signal for your TV from a satellite dish, which is what you appear to be trying to do).

You EITHER need a TV with built in FREESAT (and NOT built-in Freeview) to use with your satellite dish OR a terrestrial AERIAL (and NOT a satellite dish) to use with your Freeview TV.

Of course, you should still be able to use your old Freesat box with your new TV (because the signal sent to the TV's Scart socket completely bypasses the TV's Freeview tuner, effectively using the TV as just a monitor). However you then need to switch the TV to receive a signal from the Scart input. (As I read it, your TV is still trying to find a Freeview signal from a non-existent aerial, so it's unsurprising that it reports 'no channels'; it needs to be told to take a signal from the Scart socket). Exactly how you switch your TV to accept a signal from an external source will depend upon the exact model. Read the manual or post again here, with the maker and model, if you need further help.

As Chris says, Freesat is via satellite and Freeview is via an aerial. They use different technologies and different connectors.

You cant use a satellite / Freesat connector on a freeview device.

You need an aerial and an aerial connector to plug in the Freeview box on the TV.

Basic coaxial aerial cable needed forget the freesat.

If you use the coax cable you will not get full HD or stereo, and if you use the adaptor it will be even worse.
