Amitriptyline 10Mg

I am taking this for pain relief for about 2 to 3 weeks. It is making me tired and it is making my thinking a little foggy. Do not think it is helping my pain relief. Is it worth continuing with this? If so how long will the tiredness and foggy thinking last?

did your doctor prescribe it for pain relief, as i confess that i have never heard of it for that reason.

It certainly can be prescribed for pain and is a drug that does not suit everyone (aren't they all) if they are not helping and the fogginess is making you feel worse then contact GP to see if safe to stop.

Is it relieving your pain?

If so....continue.

If not then stop taking it and return to your GP.

as per squad.....is obviously not working for you. your gp can try plenty of other drugs more suitable to your needs.

This drug is mostly used for nerve ending pain

I've had it suggested for various chronic pain uses by various consultants.

I'm not keen on it. On pregabalin at the moment. It can make you drowsy and you aren't on that high of a dose.

I was just thinking about it the other day actually, sometimes the pain and make being grogged out quite favourable. When I first went on the pregabalin I had this lovely relaxed zoned out feeling - it made me care a bit less about the pain. I still have pain relief for certain things from it but no longer fuzzy - I do quite miss it!

I'd give it at least one more week and preferably two. The arthritis research site says 2-6 weeks for it to work.
(I've been looking into it for some time and my pharmacist mentioned it recently when I was talking to her about my fibromyalgia).

Sorry for the tardiness of my reply but had to pop out to dig friend out of snow.
Never really been affected by drugs and as one of the replies said not on a high dose. Do not notice any difference with pain relief but I am willing to keep taking it for a while longer. Just fed up with feeling tired and feeling strange (it is as if I have smoked a joint).

well I've never smoked a joint, lol, but my experience of antidepressants means I remember feeling spaced out and detached for the first three weeks.

Not so odd Em, been used for pain relief for quite some time.

Many drugs have different uses and there are other anti-depressant medications used to assist with pain relief, to help get better sleep etc...

My gastroenterologist had me back on it a few years back. I most recently had it mentioned by my rhumatologist for fibromyalgia pain and lack of sleep but as I have problems with really dry eyes and mouth (from arthritis and suspected Sjogrens Syndrome) and it can make dryness worse so I went back on citalopram to help with that and am now on pregabalin.
