Car Hire from Stansted
Hi There, we are visiting London soon, and want to hire a car from Stansted Airport. Does anyone know 1Car1 hire? and what their reputation is? We need it to be cheap, but because we are travelling with a toddler, we need it to be safe and respectable.

1Car1 are the UK's largest independent car hire company and are just as good as any other firm. They're not yet on Stansted Airport's 'official partner' list (available here: http://www.stanstedairport.com/portal/controller/dispatc her.jsp?CiID=d43912b8def32010VgnVCM100000147e120a____&am p;ChID=9d8c77f246022010VgnVCM100000147e120a____&Ct=B 2C_CT_GENERAL&CtID=448c6a4c7f1b0010VgnVCM200000357e1 20a____&Ch=UK+Rentals&ChPath=Home%5ESTN%5EPlan+a nd+Book+your+Trip%5EBook+your+Trip%5ECar+Rental%5EUK+Ren tals&ChIDPath=caf397dc2eb12010VgnVCM100000147e120a__ __^4cf597dc2eb12010VgnVCM100000147e120a____^c78797dc2eb1 2010VgnVCM100000147e120a____^151c77f246022010VgnVCM10000 0147e120a____^ef6c77f246022010VgnVCM100000147e120a____^9 d8c77f246022010VgnVCM100000147e120a____ ) but this is only because BAA (who own Stansted Airport) normally only have contracts with international companies.
If you're only basing your holiday in London car hire might make some sort of sense but if you're staying in London for most of the time then car hire sounds crazy to me. (London is almost impossible to drive in and there's a daily congestion charge to be paid. Car parking is extremely hard to find and, in central London, can cost over 30 per hour!). There's a fast, frequent train service from Stansted to London; for most visitors this makes

Agree with Chris. As an ex Londoner, if you are staying in London and 'doing the sights', it will be much more practical to use public transport or cabs. However, if you have a push chair for your toddler, these can be a right pain on the bus, and not much better on the escalators for the tube. You can get short term season tickets for public transport which will save you some money, but I would strongly advise against driving yourself due to all the charges involved. If you get out of the city, there are lots of reputable hire firms.
