Morning All!
96 Answers
Bit early this morning. Still windy and warm outside; it must be the intense heat that's got me up! Got a gardener coming at 10 am,to "see what needs to be done" (his words). Should be fine if he brings a plough to level what passes for a lawn but currently resembles a battlefield of the Great War and a chainsaw to cut down the..er... weeds (sycamores, mostly) . What's the current rate for a gardener in the South East and East Anglia? I think my late mother paid about two quid a week plus an extra bowl of gruel at Christmas, but that was the last time the place saw a gardener. I just hired blokes with heavy machinery when I moved in, so I could find the house. I knew it was in there somewhere; it was on the Ordnance Survey map.
Ah well. Have a happy day all !

The gardener, expected at 10, turned up 40 minutes early, ignored or didn't notice the sign on the gate about dogs running free, opened the gate and three wolfhounds appeared and then disappeared down the village. It took the combined efforts of various residents, the head of the village school and a passing police patrol, and an hour, to track them down. One, a pup, was a mile away, but the two others were about two and half miles off. Fortunately, they'd come on to lanes and they could be spotted from a car, though doubtless they'd been across country in the meantime.
