On today's 'Weakest Link' in the 1st round all contestants got the 1st question right. They therefore got to bank the 1,000. The strongest link was the person that banked the 1,000. BUT, they named one of the contestants as the weakest link. How come?? How do they work out 'the weakest link' in this situation??

If you listen carefully, Anne Robinson always says "Time to vote off the person YOU THINK is the weakest link." so it's never based on who is the weakest, always on the person the team think is the weakest. Due to tactical voting, this can be the strongest link, but that's all part of the game.
BUT the voiceover also names the ACTUAL weakest link, probably calculated from the times taken for the contestants to answer. I did not see this programme but in the past that has always been the case.
The Weakest Link, i.e statistically the worst player, would have to be one of those contestants who never had the opportunity to answer a second question and, I guess, the one who took the longest to answer their first question.

andy - between rounds, the male voice-over always indicates the Strongest and Weakest Links to the viewing audience whilst the contestants select their nomination for Weakest Link.
Doh!

I know that kempie, but since the contestants don't hear that voice-over, it is just for the viewers to see if the vote reflects the stats.

I don't see the relavence of that point to the question, or my answer - have I misunderstood?

Maybe I misunderstood, but I took 'they named' to mean 'the voiceover named ' and not 'the contestants named '.

The question is in relation to the ' voice-over ' saying that xxxx is the weakest link.

To simplify things I think that spainlads is refering to immediately after the questions, when the voiceover says who is the strongest and weakest link, BEFORE the contestants vote. Iv'e wondered that too.

Correct Briwrite.

That is how I understood your question so can only think that when all contestants are right, a computer measures the time they take to answer.

As I recall the voice over says 'Statistically xxx is the weakest link as they got fewest correct answers/most wrong/failed to bank etc etc.

And I suppose if in that round there were several at the same level, then previous rounds are taken into account.

This sound track is added later - the programme makers have time to consider their rankings
