I have tried this murraymints but it is not there. I put it in the question box but all that comes up is a list of files
Is it with ms office as sub string on start up ?
Re-install Word if you have the original disks, ironmonger
Under 'all progs' ot should be under the Microsoft Office as main heading, hover and you should see 'Word'
'it'
Try searching for Word from the windows search bar

Select 'Windows Start' icon in at the lower left-hand bottom screen corner, then in the 'Search programs and files' window box type the text 'Word' .

If Microsoft Word is still on your system it should display as option in the returned Search Window. If it does find it, just click on the Program to start it up.
Try reinstalling it with the the original disk. If you don't have it and all other suggestions here don't work there is a great free program called "Open Office" you can download. It will recognise and open all microsoft word documents you already have.

Info about it can be found here..... http://www.openoffice.org/why/
You can directly download it here..... http://www.openoffice.org/download/

Hope it helps
Click Start > Run
Type 'winword.exe' (without the quote marks).
Click OK.

If that opens Word, there's nothing wrong with the program; it's just a fault with your shortcut.

To create a new shortcut locate the file 'winword.exe' (In XP it's in the folder at C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office 11. If you can't find it, use the Windows search facility). Right-click on the file and select Send To > Desktop (Create Shortcut).
