o2 moblie contract

i have an o2 contract which i upgraded in febuary for another 12 month , i got a text from o2 saying they were going to start charging for certian numbers i.e 0845 , 0870 at 20p per minute , i dont have a landline as i dont need it , but these calls can last for ever as you may know , i phoned o2 to complain , they just told me its in the terms and conditions , they can do what they want really , surely they cant just change my contract half way through its term , i want to cancel but they say i will have to pay about �150 for the rest of my contract , they changed my contract cant i just cancel ?

my boyfriend phoned them as soon as he got the text from o2 about the change in the 0845 numbers. he was told that as they had changed his contract they could offer him either a new contract at a reduced price or he could cancel his contract. they were very helpful.

Check the terms of your contract carefulkly - re-negotiating it will probably not solve the problem of 0845 numbers being included in tarrif - your contract ends in Feb if you re-agree it will last until Oct next year. Check out the opposition ready for Feb and consider a pay as you go or other options for cheap 0845 calls. If the competition offers 0845 then o2 will follow suit shortly. Be careful of another 12 month committment.

084 and 087 numbers have always been expensive from mobiles.

03 numbers were introduced in 2007. These are usable in inclusive minutes from landlines and, crucually, from mobiles too.

03 numbers cost the same as 01 and 02 numbers if you have to pay for them (i.e. from pay as you go mobiles and from landlines without inclusive minutes).

In 2013/2014, the Consumer Rights Directive will force many of the users of 084 and 087 numbers to move customer service and other similar functions to 03 numbers.

034 and 037 numbers are already reserved for the users of the matching 084 and 087 numbers.

New users can choose 033 numbers, and certain organisations can use 030 numbers.

All 03 numbers are charged at the same rate.

Until that happens, look for an alternative 01 or 02 number to ring in place of the 084 and 087 numbers.
