15a. Safety first leaving insect, having to put it back in the water (5) R?D?P. I think the answer is REDIP. An anagrm of 'spider' minus the s from safety. However a spider is not an insect! Any thoughts or explanations gratefully received. Many thanks.

redip looks good to me.

Any suggestion why REDIP is correct apart from 'having to put it back in the water'?
As you said redip backwards from spider and then minus s
It's not an anagram, it's a straightforward reversal of (s)pider, or 'put it back'(wards)

Many thanks Vakayu.
Not very good clue I admit. You are right that a spider is not a member of the class Insecta but in common usage an insect can mean 'any small arthropod, such as a spider, tick, or centipede, having a superficial, general similarity to the insects"
You're very welcome.
yes put it back in the water is the definition part of the clue, and insect can refer to spider:

insect: any of various similar arthropod animals, such as spiders, centipedes, or ticks http://www.tfd.com/insect
