Diabetic Emergency Blood Sugar 21.4 Ketones In Urine Freaked Out Ran Home

Hi I went to see out of hours tonight as I had back pain and excessive urination and I thought I had kidney stone but she checked urine and she told me it had ketones in it I am type 2 diabetic on metformin 3 times a day but not being taking it all that regularly and today I had 5 bars of chocolate she checked my blood sugars and it was 21.4 she was horrified when I told her I had eaten 5 bars of chocolate today she tried to get me to go into a ward but I had a major panic attack and they agreed I could go home but not to take any sugar and take my metformin 3 times a day and see GP on monday I have never had a reading as high as 21 or ketones I am so freaked out I thought if you had ketones in your urine it meant you would die how can I get my sugar back to normal Im really freaked out I am no way eating sugar again and Im going to take my metformin regular she didnt think I was going to die over the next few days she almost laughed when I suggested it but is 21 really bad are there people worse

Unless you are really really stupid (which you don't appear to be) i can't understand how you can expect to have good diabetic control when you don't take the medication regularly and eat loads of sugary food. I also can't understand how if you are worriec you are going to die, or that 21 is rreally really dangerous, you wouldn't be admitted to get control.
First off CALM DOWN. I can't give you any info about your condition, but I know this much if there had been any chance of you dying, they would have told you - eg if you go home there is a danger of you falling into a dibetic coma, or words to that effect. Right you now know not to do something as stupid as to eat 5 bars of chocolate again and to stick to taking your medication.
