i have just opened the front door to see what the weather was doing and get the front door key in and found 8 litres of milk and six eggs on the door step. I last looked out at about 6.30pm and they were not there then.

why am i confused - live in the middle of a field behind a farmhouse and some barns. cannot be seen from the lane and no outside light. never had milk or eggs delivered, in fact except for postman most delivery drivers phone and ask "where are you?". put my address into pratnav and it sends you to a farm a couple of miles up the lane (with a very different name).

hope they are not wanted for breakfast and how do i return them?

Manna frrom heaven?
Sounds a like delivery went to the wrong address.
What, you mean this sort of thing, society.....................

...Or neighbours doing a good deed.
Is there any indication where they have come from?
i would pop them in the fridge lady J, and if no body has claimed them by sunday, i would make use of them myself. X
Similair thing happened to me years ago. lived in a small village backing on to a farm. got up one morning to find huge box in my porch, it contained wrapping paper, about 500 sheets. where it came from, i never found out, I ended up dishing it out around the family, got about 40 sheets left, still using it.

yes i understand that society but i don't know who it should go to or how to find out.

after going up the cart track you come first to the farm (not theirs as they have chickens and cows and so no need). as i said this cottage cannot be seen from lane in daylight and with no outside lights it certainly cannot be seen at night.

confused on how it managed to get here.

think you must be right shoota, but it has cost someone money and i would like to return it or get to where it should be.
Strange time for 'standard' deliveries......
No loaves and fishes lurking anywhere?

the address for the milk is a farm near lostwithiel. the egg box just says free range and handwritten best before date. so not much help there. lostwithiel is quite a way from here.

no immediate neighbours so that is discounted.

some one has driven up a very bumpy cart track, passed a farm house, passed some barns, further up cart track and passed the cattle yard, more cart track and found this cottage. hardly something they have done in passing. and all in the dark.

Well there is no flour either , so it doesn't really batter.
Question Author
8 litres of semi skimmed and 6 large free range eggs.

will wander down to the farm tomorrow and ask if they know anything about it but. . . . . .looks like i don't need to buy mil this weekend.

now i am more confused. village gossip eventually caused someone to telephone earlier this morning and said their new delivery man had left the milk and aggs in the wrong place, would i please leave them on the step and they would collect soon and where was i and directions please. did as he asked, even went out and moved them to the other side of step at lunch time to avoid sun.

have just gone and got them in again. any suggestions (polite ones only please)?
are you able to determine - from the village gossip - where they should have been delivered, and then take them there yourself?
Question Author
hi excel - not yet. will have another go tomorrow. i was curious about how many times it went round the village. there isol-fashioned village shop which is a hot bed of gossip, so probably there. they are closed tomorrow.

i only got them in as it's not a good idea to leave them out for the various animals to investigate.
that is very thoughtful of you.

let us hope they find their way to the correct address - before the 'best before date'
When we lived in Aylesbury we found two legs of pre-packed lamb shoulders left on the window sill.
